Dean Lyon's map for walking between Swearingen and Close-Hipp (will open in new tab). Dean Lyon's also provided advise.

  • The biggest time-saver is to get across Blossom St by using the pedestrian Blossom St bridge (circled in yellow).
South (down on map) of the bridge either:
    • cut a corner by crossing the Blatt PE Center field (red route)
    • go through the Blossom Street Garage (orange route).
  • From the 300 Main building, use the red route.
  • From SWGN, use the orange route unless a train is blocking Main Street, in which case use the red route.
  • Although the green route looks good on paper, time-wise it is longer because of the red light at Blossom St and the very steep Henderson St hill.
Punctual arrival to class is expected. An occasional late arrival (e.g. had an exam just before class) can occur. If you have a long walk to class, then put your cell phone away and a find quick route. Avoid the red light at the corner of Pickens and Greene Sts by using the Pickens St pedestrian bridge. Avoid crossing Assembly St by using the tunnel under Assembly street. If coming from the engineering part of campus, use the red route or orange route in Dean Lyon's map.

Mon. 1/1
We will use MyMathLab (MML) for the on-line homework so be sure to get a (hard or electronic) copy of the book with a MyMathLab access code. The above Useful Links box has the link to MML. The MML Student Registration Instructions (including the instructor's course ID) are posted on (secured) Blackboard. There are 3 preparatory/review MML assignments posted: 00.0, 00.1, and 11.1+11.2. For these review assignments, which can be done before the first day of class, there are several helpful resources posted on the course Handouts page (will open in new tab, look under Preparation, also linked from the above Useful Links box). For those having troubles getting MML access, the due date is extended; however, it is highly suggested you get started as soon as possible.

Sun. 12/31
Familiarize yourself with this course homepage. Note: (see above boxes for needed links)

  • MyMathLab access is required for the on-line homework
  • "Semester Calendar" contains the (tentative, given a window) exams dates, an exam might fall just before/after a break, and there are no make-up exams without an approved excused absence from the Office of Student Advocacy.
  • "Prof. G's Weekly Schedule" contains her office hours (ps: Sat. 2-4, think of them as your chance to ask questions as you finish up your MML HW.).
If you use an electronic tablet for taking notes, then please sit in one of the first two rows of the classroom.
