Matlab Tutorials and Documentation

For a demonstration of the simple syntax and broad functionality of Matlab, first start Matlab by clicking the Matlab icon on the NT machines or by typing "matlab" at the prompt on the UNIX machines. Once the application is launched, at the MATLAB prompt type the command "demo". From the menu which will be displayed, run the demos that interest you by following the instructions on the screen.

Although there is on-line help in Matlab, you can find helpful tutorials and quick-start documents at the following links:

Matlab m-files
Download the Matlab m-files from the following table and save them in your "working directory".

 Title Brief Descripton my_cplxdemo Matlab demo of graphing complex-valued functions my_cplxgrid Generates grid of z-values for domain and is used by "my_cplxdemo" my_cplxmap Plots the real part of f(z) as the height and colors the resulting surface with the imaginary part. Here red is used for highest values and blue for lowest. This m-file is also used by "my_cplxdemo". my_cplxroot Plots the Riemann surface of the n-th roots of complex z using the real part as the height and colors the resulting surface with the imaginary part. Here red is used for highest values and blue for lowest. my_cplxlog Plots the Riemann surface of the logarithm of complex z, first using the real part as the height and colors the resulting surface with the imaginary part, and then reverses the rendering for the real and imaginary parts of f.
