About

Did you ever wonder why you are required to spend so much time learning mathematics? Have you been told math is important but don’t know why?

The University of South Carolina SIAM Student Chapter provides the experiences to answer these questions. We are a group of undergraduate and graduate students from all scientific backgrounds interested in seeing mathematical techniques in action. We host events where speakers demonstrate how the same math skills you are learning now are used professionally in high technology industries as well as in cutting edge research. Please come join us at our next event and see what can be done with math!

The Objectives of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)

  • To further the application of mathematics in industry and science.
  • To promote basic research in mathematics leading to new methods and techniques useful to industry and science.
  • To provide media for the exchange of information and ideas between mathematicians and other technical and scientific personnel.
