G3D Development

G3D is written in OpenGL and Motif. By linking to the excellently designed Mesa 3-D graphics library, (http://www.videogamedesignschools.org/resources/using-mesa-3d/) or to commercially available OpenGL products, G3D may be compiled on any UNIX machine running X-Windows.
The model type of the underlying simulator (US3D, for example) determines the type of equations used. The groups of coefficients expected by those equations are specified though `material types' in G3D, but may be easily modified for other systems of partial differential equations (see Appendix III). Additional model parameters, such as initial conditions and boundary conditions, are also configured through G3D. Thoughout the specification process, G3D employs graphical tools and visual feedback to provide data-checking mechanisms for input errors.
