Nieves McNulty
Nieves McNulty obtained her B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from the University
of the Philippines, and her Ph. D. in mathematics (numerical optimization)
from the University of South Carolina. She has taught full time at the
University of the Philippines and the University of South Carolina-Aiken
before coming to Columbia College. She has also taught, as visiting faculty,
at the University of Hawaii (Manoa) and the University of Colorado
(Boulder).
Her teaching responsibilities include the whole range of mathematics courses
from the general education courses to the upper level math major courses.
She also teaches some Computer Information Science courses when needed. Among her academic interests
are applications of mathematics in actuarial science, the history of
mathematics, and graph theory. She is also interested in improving
mathematics teaching and learning as well as in encouraging participation of
girls and women in the mathematical and computing sciences.
Dr. McNulty currently serves as the coordinator of the mathematics program at Columbia College.
Nieves and George are married and have two offspring: Allie (29) and Michael
(26).
