To create the SCATTER_PLOT plot, you select items from the menu as follows

  IMPORT
    ASCII
      SELECTION: scatter_plot.txt
      *OK

PLOT
  PLOT APPEARANCE
    TIMESTAMP
      Check the ENABLE box
     *ACCEPT

PLOT
  GRAPH APPEARANCE
  In the TITLES box:
    TITLE: Scatter Plot
   *ACCEPT

PLOT
  SET APPEARANCE
    In the LINE PROPERTIES box:
      Type: NONE
     *APPLY (Now the graph lines disappear)
    In the SYMBOL PROPERTIES box:
      TYPE: Circle
      COLOR: Blue
    *APPLY (Now hollow blue dots appear at data values)
     Choose the SYMBOL tab
       In the SYMBOL FILL box:
         PATTERN: Choose the filled in square
        *APPLY (now the dots are filled in)

PLOT
  AXIS PROPERTIES
    (The X axis is selected by default)
    START: 0.0
    STOP:  1.0
    AXIS LABEL: <--- X --->
    In the TICK PROPERTIES box
    Major spacing: 0.1
    Select the TICK MARKS tab
    In the MAJOR TICKS box
      Check DRAW GRID LINES
    *APPLY
    Now choose AXIS: Y
    AXIS LABEL: <--- Y --->
    In the TICK PROPERTIES box
    Select the TICK MARKS tab
    In the MAJOR TICKS box
      Check DRAW GRID LINES
    *ACCEPT

Now save the image:

  PRINT SETUP
    In the DEVICE STEUP box
      DEVICE: PNG
    In the OUTPUT box
      FILE NAME: scatter_plot.png
    *ACCEPT

  PRINT

  (This choice writes the graphics information to the PNG file.)
